About H.O.N.E.Y.
Founded in 1983 in Eugene, OR, H.O.N.E.Y. (Honoring Our New Ethnic Youth) is a nonprofit organization with a deep commitment to celebrating and empowering multiracial, ethnic, and underserved youth and families across Lane County and Oregon. Our mission is to create opportunities for growth, connection, and cultural awareness through a wide range of programs and services designed to foster pride, self-confidence, and belonging. We work to reduce barriers and increase access to life-changing resources, while striving to build a more inclusive and equitable future for all.
H.O.N.E.Y. was founded by Sarah and Randy Ross, along with close friends Dona Mittasch, Bev Pile, Rose Fong, Kathy Maris, CJ Mann, and Ruben Cota. The organization was born out of a desire to create a safe, welcoming space for interracial families, individuals, and children to come together, share experiences, and build community. The name "H.O.N.E.Y." was chosen to bring awareness to the often overlooked and marginalized experiences of mixed and interracial people, who were frequently labeled as “other.”
One of H.O.N.E.Y.’s earliest successes was organizing Eugene’s first community Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration, which brought hundreds together and highlighted the need for continued opportunities for ethnic and multiracial communities to unite. This event laid the foundation for H.O.N.E.Y.'s ongoing mission to support and uplift diverse communities in Oregon.
Today, H.O.N.E.Y. continues its work under the leadership of Niyah Ross, daughter of the founders, who remains committed to carrying forward the vision of creating spaces for growth, unity, and cultural empowerment. Through academic support, leadership development, and community events, H.O.N.E.Y. is proud to be a catalyst for positive change in the lives of youth and families across the region.
“Having the support of H.O.N.E.Y. has taught my kids invaluable lessons about life and valuing the uniqueness of self.”
— Jennifer W.
